How to schedule a Black Friday sale on Shopify, and undo it automatically

By Ori Iscovici · Updated 27 October 2026

Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. The hard part of a sale isn't starting it. It's making sure every price goes back afterwards, on time, without a late-night edit or a week of finding products still on sale.

Short answer: Shopify discounts can start and end on set dates by themselves. To schedule sale prices with a struck-through original on the products themselves, use Launchpad if you're on Shopify Plus, or an app: in Catalogist, choose Start a sale, preview it, then under When choose Schedule, set the start, tick Undo it automatically and set the end. At the end time every price goes back.

Two ways to run a Black Friday sale on Shopify

Option 1: a Shopify discount with active dates

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Discounts and click Create discount.
  2. Choose Amount off products (or another type), and pick Automatic discount or a Discount code.
  3. Set the value, and which products or collections it applies to.
  4. Under Active dates, set the start date and time, tick Set end date, and set the end.
  5. Save. The discount turns on and off by itself.

Watch out for: how discounts combine with each other, and whether your theme shows the reduced price on product and collection pages. If shoppers only see the deal in the cart, a sale price may sell better.

Option 2: sale prices that start and end on a schedule

This is how it works in Catalogist. Scheduling is on the Pro plan, which has a 14-day free trial.

  1. Tag the products on sale. Add a tag such as bfcm to everything in the sale, so one filter finds them. You can add the tag in bulk, and undo it like any other edit.
  2. Filter and pick the sale. In Catalogist's bulk editor, filter by tag:bfcm (or a collection, vendor or type), choose Start a sale, and enter a percent or amount off. Optionally round the new prices, for example to .99.
  3. Check the preview. Look at each variant's old price and sale price. The original price is kept as the compare-at price, so it shows struck through.
  4. Schedule it. Under When, choose Schedule. Set the start date and time, tick Undo it automatically, and set the end date and time. Times are in your store's time zone.
  5. Let it run. At the start, prices drop. At the end, Catalogist undoes the change and prices go back. The Scheduled changes page shows each sale's status, and you can cancel it before it starts or end it early.

Example: 20% off everything tagged bfcm, starting Friday 27 November at 12:00 AM and ending Tuesday 1 December at 12:00 AM in your store's time zone. That covers Black Friday through the end of Cyber Monday. Times can be set to the quarter hour, and the end can be up to 12 months after the start.

Want the sale to start right away? Choose Start a sale, set Ends to On a date, and pick the end date. It starts in about a minute, and prices go back by themselves at the end of that day.

Before the sale: a short checklist

  • Schedule it early. Set it up a week ahead, while there's time to check it. You can cancel any time before it starts.
  • Read the preview. Check a few of the lowest prices, and any products that already had a compare-at price.
  • Check your store's time zone. Start and end times use the time zone in your Shopify settings, not your computer's.
  • Leave sale products alone during the sale. If you edit one by hand, the automatic undo skips it so your edit isn't lost. You'll need to set its price back yourself.
  • Plan any follow-up. If you extend the sale, use End now and undo and schedule a new one, rather than editing prices by hand.

After the sale

Open the Scheduled changes page. A finished sale shows Done with how many products were put back and how many were skipped. The sale also stays in History, where its old values remain undoable for 12 months after it ran.

Questions

When is Black Friday 2026?

Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November. Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. Many stores run one sale from Friday through the end of Monday.

Can Shopify schedule a sale automatically?

Partly. Shopify discounts have active dates, so a discount can start and end on its own. Rollouts (Basic plan and up) can switch a market catalog with its own prices on and off on a schedule, and Shopify Plus stores can schedule sale prices with Launchpad. Otherwise Shopify can't schedule a change to the price and compare-at fields on your products and put them back afterwards: that's done by hand, by CSV, or by an app that schedules it.

Should I use a discount or a sale price for Black Friday?

A discount is simplest for codes and cart-level offers. A sale price (lower price, original kept as the compare-at price) shows the struck-through price wherever your theme shows compare-at prices, such as product and collection pages, so shoppers see the deal while browsing. Many stores use sale prices for the main sale and a code for email subscribers.

How do I make a Shopify sale end automatically?

For a discount, set an end date under Active dates. For sale prices, use an app that schedules the end. In Catalogist, schedule the sale and tick Undo it automatically: at the end time it undoes the change and every price goes back.

What happens if I edit a product during the sale?

Catalogist skips it when the sale ends, so your newer edit isn't overwritten, and the result shows how many products were put back and how many were skipped.

Can I end a scheduled sale early?

Yes. On the Scheduled changes page, cancel a sale before it starts, or press End now and undo to end it straight away. A running sale can also be undone from History.

Which plan do I need?

Scheduling is on Pro, $25/month, with a 14-day free trial. Stores that start Pro by 31 December 2026 keep that price for as long as they stay subscribed; from 1 January 2027 new merchants pay $39/month or $390/year. Undo, preview and History are free on every plan.
